For shame, thtownse, what provoked you to make such a controversial statement? You just instigated Wordnikgate!

The -gate morpheme is not my favourite either. It's a blunt instrument, but I have to concede that it works.

This one makes my skin crawl. I especially loathe its application to everyday non-scandals. It wouldn't be quite so bad if it was reserved for actual Watergate-style goings-on of a gubu nature.

thtownse commented on the word [anything] - gate
Thanks pterodactyl - it is passing absurd how many of these there are. I hope it does not imply that we as a culture lack the imagination to come up with new morphemes. I suppose one could look at it as a very long-running joke that was kind of funny at first and gets a little less funny each time it is used.

I liked "Gatesgate" (about the scandal surrounding the arrest of Henry Louis Gates, Jr.), but those other snowclone examples are great.
